OER policy and Higher Education: Current trends and Future Perspectives

The aim of this session is to provide an overview of the UNESCO OER Recommendation and the five areas for action with a dedicated focus on supportive police and international collaboration. The webinar will be dedicated to the development of policy guidelines for OER in Francophone Africa and how they could be adapted to be relevant in a global context. Moreover, the session aims to identify bottlenecks and barriers to the innovative implementation of OER in Higher Education and discuss factors for the successful implementation, up-scaling and mainstreaming of innovative practices and supportive policies for OER. It will facilitate dialogue around the five action Areas of the OER Recommendation followed by a discussion with OER experts and will seek to raise awareness of OER as digital public goods, solicit input and feedback from the experts and the Higher Education community, and identify how evidence-based policies could be translated into an operational framework that can support Member States and institutional stakeholders. The session will also take stock of current policies and initiatives to develop access to OER and reflect how effective partnerships between governments, industry, and civil society can help countries develop OER for the benefit of all their citizens.

The impact of climate change and displacement on the right to education

In remembrance of two powerful cyclones that hit southeast Asia in May 2019 and May 2020 – climatic catastrophes that displaced millions of people overnight, UNESCO is organizing a Webinar to stimulate the global dialogue around the impact of climate change and climate displacement on the right to education. This event is part of a broader initiative launched by UNESCO in 2020 to investigate the barriers to education posed by climate change, as well as climate-driven displacement given the increasing impact of climate change on human mobility.
